Flash Fiction & Short Stories

The one black eye of the raven queen blinked for the first time in one hundred years. Down, down, flew the raven queen, guided by the grey flickering light of the highwayman’s soul and the bright wings of the forest’s fairies, who gazed upon his handsome face.

Amazing Women

Every Picture has a background story. Some are based on folk tales, such as the Brothers Grimm, whose female heroes dominate almost every adventure. Far from being sweet Disney princesses, these heroes overcome corrupt kings, unlock curses laid upon exiled brothers and face disgruntled mothers - who usually turn out to be quite evil witches. Other art works are based on real life stories from modern history, such as the story of Amy Johnson, the first woman to fly from Britain to Australia. A pioneer of early aviation, and sharing the sky with fellow flyers such as Amelia Earhart, Bessie Coleman and Jacqueline Cochran.

I am very pleased to be working closely with the Artful Pelican gallery, 143 Lee Road, London, SE3 (www.artfulpelican.com).

A dedicated contemporary art gallery filled with two floors of quality art work, the Artful Pelican is particularly special as 100% of its profits are used to provide physical and emotional support for the homeless. The Artful Pelican is a non-profit making charity which actively helps people who have found themselves homeless.

The charities Street Souls project and the Coombe Trust Children’s Charity both directly benefit from sales of art at the Artful Pelican. A minimum of a quarter of the retail price of any artwork sold via the gallery goes directly to help the homeless. The gallery is currently in the process of setting up a free, safe, and welcoming creative space for homeless people.
