THE CHANGE

Rick Clarke

The weather threatened rain; really threatened.  The air was hot and muggy, and although the sun was up and shining, the grey storm clouds were moving at some pace across the sky.  It was as if you could feel the electricity in the atmosphere. It showed. Everyone was edgy. Everyone commented on ‘the strange feeling in the air’ whilst looking up looked up at the sky without smiles on their faces.  Even the cats were going crazy. Some were scrapping, others howling, but most were just hiding.

Everywhere you went there were old ladies calling out for their beloved pets, making mweeing sounds and shaking handfuls of Mr Tibbles treats.  But none of them were coming out None of the cats were going indoors. Their base instincts were driving them to dig in, under bushes, under cars. They could feel the change in the air.
